What is Encryption and How Does it Work?

Online service providers usually offer bank grade security to protect your data, but what does that really mean? Is it safe during data transmission to the offsite storage? And what about while it is on the servers at the provider’s data center? For most services, it simply means that they encrypt your data before transmission using algorithms that are being used by banks and the military to secure information. Access to the data is only possible using a unique key that unlocks the encryption; and it is essential that this access is absolutely private – available only to you and no one else.
